Now I understand that I could 'brick' it (render it useless) if I dont use the appropriate RSS software to program it correctly. My particular radio happens to be a Canadian version and I am wondering if the typical Motorola RSS for this radio would work or do I need a specific Canadian Motorola RSS version for this? Does that exist? The model number is as follows: AXH43TUK5170CN Now, I don't need a tutorial on the legalities surrounding purchasing or using Motorola RSS software. Again my question relates to the programming software specific to this radio equipment.

Can regular Systems Saber software be used to program this radio or is there some other Motorola specific software required to acomplish this? Any experts out there? 73 Charles - KC8VWM Mark Brueggemann: Systems Saber and Saber III are two different radios, so I don't think you'll get very far using Systems Saber RSS to program a Saber III radio.

I'm not aware that there is a special 'canadian' model. They were all the same unless they were SP, and you don't see many of those in the Saber models. In terms of RSS rendering it useless, I've never seen that.

The only RSS limitation is that with some combinations of software and radio firmware versions, they are not backwards compatible. In other words, once you use newer RSS, you can't use the older one on that radio anymore. The RSS will usually warn you if you are about to do this. You will cause no 'harm' by just reading the radio, so I would try that first with whatever version of RSS you have and go from there. A dealer may or may not have RSS for every model of radio, depending on what other customers they have that need support. A dealer won't buy a new software package costing hundreds of dollars just to program yours for $75.

Programming a Saber III can be involved, and a Systems Saber is even more so, so having a *really good* idea of what you want in it is key, so you don't have to get it redone later. Mark K5LXP Albuquerque, NM Navigation [0].
